Default Loud noise from engine compartment?

Just thought I would look here for answers first...

Went to the movies Tuesday night with the top up. Upon exiting I-95 I am in 3rd gear, foot off the gas and slowing down with the engine when I hear a very loud rattling sound. It appeared to be coming from the driver's side of the engine compartment and only when deaccelerating while in gear.

I have never heard it before but it sounded serious, like metal rattling against metal. After parking, the noise has yet to reproduce itself, but I am sure it will be back with time.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Tim,
Is this something different than the rattling you hear when decelerating from 4000 to 3000 rpms?

If you want to stop by and go for a drive, I can tell you if it is normal - I suspect it is the same "clutch" sound that is typical for the S2000.
It is certainly more noticeable with the top up.

I do have the slight rattle from 4K to 3K but this was different. Probably 3 times as loud and very distinctive. Has not repeated since.

I would love to drive it with someone else in the car so they could hear the engine. From what I understand the low rpm rattle is standard... I have always had it.

Has anyone had TSB 00-054 done?

It pertains to the clutch rattle 3-4Krpms.

Anyone?

I read somewhere on the forum that TSB 00-054 does not fix whatever it was out to fix.

TSB-054 does fix the clutch rattle.

I had it done about 4K miles ago. The car was quiet as a mouse after the fix, before the fix it sounded like an exhaust heat sheild broke loose.

The noise came back ever so slightly (which the TSB said it might) but it isn't nearly as loud as before.

It shows up mostly when decel from 4K to 3K with clutch engaged.

ATGS2K,

that sounds exactly like the problem I have. At first, the noise did not bug me and I assumed that's what all S2000s sounded like. Now the noise seems to have increased and the other day while driving, something was totally wrong... it sounded like the heat shield had fallen off and was banging around in the engine compartment.

I will try and find a dealership that has performed the TSB at least once. I really hate to have anyone tear my car apart but hopefully it will be for the best.

Thanks for your input.

Don't expect too much from the TSB fix - the sound comes back - even if to a lesser degree.

Hey guys I'm kinda new. I didn't want to post a new thread but this seems like the right place to ask opinions on my situation. I have a similar rattling noise that seems to be coming from either my alternator or ac compressor. I thought my ac compressor clutch was the more likely culprit since the rattling noise became more quiet when the ac flips on but I tried bypassing it with the shorter ac compressor bypass belt and the noise is still there. So now I back to confused. Could it still be an electrical issue with my ac compressor? If so I'll just remove it or do you think the alternator is more likely? Cuz all my electronics seem to work just fine. Thanks for any help.
