Default M3 Driving

Well I have today off and it's a nice day so besides changing my fluids today I drove over to New Country BMW (called before hand) and test drove an M3. I've never driven an E46 and I've been talking my wife into it, which would result in no S. So my impression was a bit different than expected. I thought they were a lot faster and honestly I wasn't all that impressed. I guess I was turned off by all a the gizmos. I didn't even know what most of them were. The guy was pretty cool and he actually urged me to push it. I took it up to 90mph and it felt good. Obviously it was fast but something about the M motif lead me to believe they were faster. I guess I don't know how to explain it. My question to you is how do they compare to a supercharged S? Just bolt on comptech with aftercooler accompanied by clutch and fly wheel.

According to Glenn, who has driven jt's M3, it is "dangerous". That's all he could say about it, "it's dangerous, it's dangerous, it's dangerous..."

i've driven an E46 M3 vert and wasn't impressed either with its power or speed. It felt large and fat.

ive noticed a trend among s2k owners switching to an m3.

while the cars are apples to oranges, when practicality becomes more of a concern for the s2000 driver, they may make the switch to the m3?

so i guess i would consider it the "s2000" of the luxury coupe class?

either way theyre both badass cars!

They are both on my most wanted list of "within reach" automobiles.

Yes, both cars are quite nice and I don't feel it would be worth trading in my S right now and then making higher payments. So what are your guys thoughts towards the supercharger vs. M?

Doug said Julius pulled him from a 10mph roll . Not being there I dont have all the answers . I need to know what gear they were both in to start .

Need to know if he tried a 60mph roll to say 100mph ???

I think we need to do some more testing

Doug and Julius , you guys can leave your cars here for the week and Glenn and I will race around in them , I mean test them and give our input

For fun driving, I'd take the S, w/ or w/o SC, over M3. Practicality priority varies for each person, so it doesn't matter what I think about that.

Not related to SC S2k, but some comments about the comparison: Link

M3's are nowhere near as fun as the S in terms of pure driving pleasure. I have had both E36 and E46 M3's.
