Default MA excise tax

Hi guys,

I just purchased the S and was curious to see how much everyone pays for the excise tax each year.

Thanx in advance for your input

I think the bill usualy says $25 for every $1000. BUT, it always works out less than that. Strange

In the year you buy it, it's prorated for how much of the year you had the car. Otherwise, it is based on a straightline depreciated value # at a rate of $25 per $1000 of value.

fortunately the state tends to have a pretty quick depreciation schedule. so after two years it not real bad.

So its not that bad. I thought it was going to be close to the tax that I paid on the car

What?? I'm leasing from Honda finance and got the car in January 2002. Just last month I got a notice of around $780 in excise tax for the year 2002! Actually I've even paid it by now. What's the deal?

Mas,

Sorry about the bill but it sounds correct.

If you buy in sometime in January, the 2.5% tax is calculated for the almost whole year at a high price (ex. list price).

The depreciation kicks in, January of the following year.

The way to play the excise system is to buy in December so you only have one month of taxing at the high price.

Sounds good but sometimes you need the car when you need the car.

Mas, here's the difference: you bought you car in January, so you pay for the full year. I bought my S in July, so my tax has been prorated for half the year. That's why mine is half the cost of yours.
