Default NE road trip help needed

Hi there..I am out here from California, for the next 3 weeks. We have the lovely Pacific Ocean coastal drive out west, and I want to do something similar here on the east coast.

Final Destination needs to be Boston TO Montreal. How can we make it scenic and add some water/scenary/good driving roads to the road trip?

I was thinking Boston, up the coast to Portland, and then cut over inland to Montreal?

I have never been north of Boston on the water, so looking for your help.

How are the roads? Any coast/ocean hugging roads like out on the Pacific Coast highway?

Appreciate any pointers.

I can do the drive, Boston to scenic route to Montreal, and drive back to Boston. Or Boston straight to Montreal, then on the way back scenic route to Boston via other states.

Thanks!

**I am living in Boston, for next 3 weeks, nothing to do during the week, so if anybody needs any help to do anything/hang out, let me know!!! ** Though I am busy after 5pm (when my people get off work)

Boston to Portland is a tough go. Either crowded, hectic interstate or two lane US route 1 which is part of many towns' local road system. It's scenic in places, but you won't make any time and local traffic can be frustratingly slow.

loan shark,
I drove some of the coastal highway from big sur up to north of frisco last fall. I can't think of anything that matches that around here.

how long a drive are you planning to make? Montreal isn't exactly towards the ocean from Boston.

Rt 1a from Hampton Beach to Portsmouth, NH is similar to the PCH. Weekdays are better trafficwise as 1a is only 2 lane road.

If Boston to Montreal is your route, you can get there in just over 5 hours according to Google Maps.

If you want to stay off the highway and travel the back roads, it's a "bit" longer at 9 hrs. 3 minutes.

You still won't see any ocean, but depending on your route, going through VT can be VERY nice. (Route 7, if I remember correctly is quite nice).

Boston to Montreal -avoid highway

got a Nuvi? I can hook you up. That makes it easier to get on and off the highway if you want to spend a little time on both.

Yes Lainey Rt. 7 is very very nice in sections, and through the towns isn't that great, but it's also not very bad.

Rt. 2 west over to Williamstown, then Rt. 7 up north through VT might not be a very bad ride at all.

Let me know when and where. My phone is 310 924 4839

TO ALL ELSE--thanks guys. I will look at the mapquest and design a route through Vermont and NH and see some OCean and VT country side.

Any recommendations to stay in Montreal?

Recommendations for Car rentals in Boston?

I am staying in Charlestown, MA
