Default Need a new `shield

I have to admit, my windshield on my 2000 s2k was looking a bit sandblasted, but picking up a rock in the windshield is never fun. Having never made a windshield claim, wondering if anyone has any advice.

I have GEICO, I know I have glass coverage, but what is the procedure? Do I call the insurance co first, or the glass company? Should I go through Honda, or use an aftermarket? I searched the forums and PPG looks like a good supplier. Should I trust one of those mobile companies, as I have heard they are unable to do as good a job as a shop.

Last, but not least, what is the $$$ for a s2k windshield?

Cheers
~Joe

Hey Joe - in MA all you need to do is call the glass company and they handle everything from contacting your insurance company to installing the AFTERMARKET windshield - at least in mass - you'll only get a Honda windshield if the car is less than a year old - I think the price on a factory screen is about $450.00 or so

I had GEICO once and had to do a windshield replacement. You'll have to call GEICO but insist on picking your own shop. They will try to make you use one of those mobile glass replacement jobs. I do not recommend them. I had them come back 2x to fix the damn windshield trim. Later I find out they miss aligned the damn windshield. Also make sure they use HONDA glass. My .02 cents.

I know the pitted windshield problem is super common, but I thought it was the Honda glass that was the problem. I seem to remember a thread where everyone was bitchen about their factory glass, and the general consensus was that ppg or the like had better (harder ) aftermarket glass.
Or, do I have that ass backward ?

My memory bites, so I would certainly defer to anyone who remembers it differently.

I can't wait till mine cracks: it's so damn pitted, it looks like it's foggy all the time!
good luck,
Bing

in MA you can get a free windshield once a year if yours is pitted (as long as you carry comprehensive insurance) - it's really a safety issue

Just call a local glass place or your insurance agent

I had my windshield replaced by Executive glass not too long ago.

The plastic cover near the wipers is not flush with the windshield. Cosmetic imperfection. It doesn't affect anything.

I think they broke some brackets and used extra adhesive to compensate that.

BTW, does anyone know if the replacement window (the non-OEM one that insurance pays for) looks the same as OEM?

I have a small chip on mine that does not really bother me. I can get a new one but my last experience with the Prelude was not very good - the replacement window has a big dark tinted strip on top that I absolutely hated, plus they did not really do a good job with the molding (or whatever it's called) cause it wasn't flush like before.

Yes they all suck especially the mobile guys. They don't even replace the damn molding so when the rip it out and break the brackets they don't replace with new. Also many folks and I included also had alignment issues with those a-holes.

So my assumption is probably right then. Without the brackets.....is it a safety concern?
