Non-Op Registration
Has anyone non-oped their registered car in MA before? Do I need to have the vehicle continuously insured while having a non-op registration?
I am looking into getting a primary vehicle and non-opping the s2000. I have been commuting 100 miles per day for work (I finally got employed in Jan yay!) for the past 6 weeks. As much as I like driving the s2000, its not the best car for the commute. I know I know, summer is just around the corner and the s2000 will be nice during that time. But driving home with a headache and hearing the stock engine drone in the cabin is not ideal.
I could sell it, but I rather keep it. I am looking at not paying insurance premiums for 2 vehicles. I'm just tossing this idea around and have no idea what I will end up doing (if and when I do).

Not sure what a non op registration is, but I'd bet is something not allowed in our great state of MA.
To keep your vehicle registered, you have to keep insurance on it.
If you're looking to save a few $, you can take the car off the road and store it, but you won't have any coverage, on it. Another option to save a few bucks and not bother with having to re-register the car is to lower liability limits to minimum coverage and drop collision and even fire and theft/comprehensive. Keep in mind if you drop those coverages and a tree falls on it, or the car is vandalized, you are not covered. You can re-instate coverage when you are ready to hit the road.

One of my friends does this with his WRX, I'm not entirely sure the process but he backs the car into the corner of his garage, puts it on jack stands all winter and keeps only theft/comprehensive on the car. I'll talk to him about it the next time I see him to get more details.
Thanks for the replies.
Yes Lainey, non-op registration = keeping registration but having it marked as non-operational for use.
Maybe I was mistaken that you could take off insurance when doing that. I will see if I can lower my insurance parameters instead.

This is what my friend does, he keeps the theft/fire insurance on the car and reinstates his policy before he starts driving it again.
