No war.

Let's just make sure that if we are going to start enforcing rules that we do it right and make sure that we are not being selective about it.

From my observation of the participation in that thread, there were quite a few members who enjoyed it, evidenced by their posting. It apparently bothered a minority of members, and was removed forthwith.

I want to make sure that ALL other site rules are not being violated either, because it is right and we don't want to offend anyone else who may be too timid to speak up about it out of fear of ridicule, as Bill has mentioned recently.

I have to be honest I didn't like the thread, There is an ENTIRE forum devoted to hottie pics, how many hottie pics do you guys need to see?

For the record, I didn't ask for the removal of the thread, I doubt Ellen did either, as she said she didn't click on the thread. I truly don't think it was removed because it "bothered" a minority of people here. It was removed because it didn't belong here....but that's just a guess on my part.

I am not pointing any fingers at all.

Even if no one complained and Bill thought it was the right thing to do, that is fine. After all, it IS the right thing to do to follow the rules.

Let's start with this:

For the most part, signature sizes have not been a publicly addressed issue. If someone were to ask me where to look to see what the required signature size is, I wouldn't know what to tell that person. As moderators, we are told to privately ask individuals to down-size their signatures if the entire signature takes up more space than 600 pixels wide by 90 pixels tall - not including assigned badges, but including any text or URL's you have in it. An example of this size is my main signature graphic:

THAT one will take forever.

Let's not get too picky.

Also, I would like to do the right thing and change my position on the politics in threads issue. I have not read the rules as of yet, but I am told that the rules state that posts about political issues and religion should be confined to the proper forum.

I will begin by no longer taking part in these types of threads. Hopefully everyone else will as well so that our COs and moderators do not have to begin moving or locking threads. I will defer to them as to whether or not any current threads containing political or religious banter should be dealt with forthwith or allowed to drift away.

Jeff, to be honest, I think the ruling on the political discussion have changed. I believe they ARE allowed in regional forums. I think Bill just checked on this.

A while ago, we had some "issues" in Vintage, Erick/cthree stopped by for a visit to see what the fuss was about. If I recall correctly, he basically let people know that COs do have some discretion in how they handle threads of various subject matter. It's not always black and white. Being a CO is like raising teenagers at time, you have to "pick your battles."

I'll also tell you that when I was CO getting "second guessed" for either editing a post, moving a thread, dumping a thread, was the norm. Nothing was ever met with total approval, hence the reason I'm no longer a CO. It's a PIA job.

I can imagine it is. But the idea I am trying to outline here is "where is the imaginary line drawn"? I thought we beat the horse to death when we had the politics thread that if someone doesn't like a particular thread/topic/post... they can simply not read it.

There are threads that will not appeal to everyone. For example, I don't like the threads about feeling bad for people. I see enough misery every day and don't need it on my PC at home too. But not once did I complain, because I can simply not read it, which I usually don't. And, if I happen upon one by accident, I can live with it.

I don't see how this situation is any different.

The exception to this is obviously something vulgar, obscene or out right immoral. I don't think that anyone can make an argument that the NE hottie thread rose to any of those criteria.

it was all part of Bill's "social experment" as he put it - from what i take he left it there long enough for me to say the same thing about selective rules being enforced while others are not. ie my new title as "the CO nanny" - ie the off topic thread exceeded 2000 posts so he suggested that it was against the site rules and mike closed it

when i mentioned that the hottie thread was no different it was dumped

i could care less about hottie threads anywhere but the selective rule issue is an issue

That's exactly the point I am trying to make here. When it comes down to it, I can certainly live without the hottie thread. But what I cannot live with, is the idea that any thread that doesn't appeal to someones whimsical criteria may get dumped without ceremony.
