It is one of those things where everyone does it and 99.99% of the time it is OK, but technically it is not. Kind of like at an intersection where two cars are turning left. Both cars are supposed to pass each other and turn left behind one another, but everyone likes to turn in front of the other car. 99.99% of the time it is fine, but let that car hit you because they try to do the right thing by going past you first and you are at fault.
I'd better brush up on my driver ed...I don't remember this rule either.

From now on, only right hand turns for me, and no passing on the right either...

Yeah, its just one of those things that everyone does and only now and again it rears its ugly head if an accident happens.

Speaking of all this, my Dr. cleared me today to go back to training with the dog. We are heading up for our first day in the morning

the Dr. said I should try lightly jogging on a treadmill in two weeks and said that when he sees me next month on the 22nd, he will sign me in full duty. This is great because now we will get all our training done prior to being signed in full duty and don't have to do it later so I can hit the street much sooner!!

Again, this only applies to Connecticut, so check your own state. Emphasis mine.

Sec. 14-233. Passing on right. The driver of a vehicle may overtake and pass upon the right of another vehicle only when conditions permit such movement in safety and under the following conditions: (1) When the vehicle overtaken is making or has signified the intention to make a left turn; (2) when lines of vehicles traveling in the same direction in adjoining traffic lanes have come to a stop or have reduced their speed; (3) upon a one-way street free from obstructions and of sufficient width for two or more lines of moving vehicles; (4) upon a limited access highway or parkway free from obstructions with three or more lanes provided for traffic in one direction. Such movement shall not be made by driving off the pavement or main-traveled portion of the highway except where lane designations, signs, signals or markings provide for such movement. Violation of any provision of this section shall be an infraction.

i love when people stop to take a left and turn the steering wheel left.. when i smash into the back of them it will make it easier to push them into the oncoming 18 wheeler

why do people do that. when i am stopped to take a left the tires are always straight

You know, this is why I love looking up stuff. I find something funny every time. From the Connecticut Driver's Handbook:

"You must yield the right-of-way to trains crossing the roadway"

Who knew?

I believe they call that "The law of gross tonnage."

well I had some boneheaded troglodyte pull a great stunt on me today.
driving back on rt 110 almost to rt 2.
I must had had the invisible paint on again.
about 50 ft in front of the me they bang a left, not tight enough that I had to slam on the brakes but had to lift.
but as they make the left into the driveway they kept the wheel turned and came back out... they were pulling a U-ey and came back into the lane right in front of me. WTF
I hard to make a hard yank to the left to keep from slamming into them.
Of course they were driving an Prius the new flagship of the driving skill challenged.

He is in surprisingly good shape. I don't think he put on one extra pound (unlike me) and his muscles still ripple through his fur on his hind legs. I am lucky to have a Belgian Malinois because they are a very fit and agile breed. I think if I had a GSD he would have been just as fat and lazy as me by now

I am still getting ready to leave and he is already sitting out in the car waiting.

I hear ya on that one Jerry!

Maybe this should be in another thread, but does anyone notice that there are
certain types of cars that just seem to have bad drivers in them? For example,
if I ever get stuck behind a BUICK, I know to call ahead and let the people know
that I'm going to see that I WILL be late because it's guaranteed that a BUICK will
always be driven by and they are always going 10mph no matter what
road you're on.
