Default Possible flood damage to my engine

So on the way to the gym this morning at 0500 I ran into a flooded out roadway. Car sputtered and died and when I tried to crank it back up it was stuck (locked?). Still had power at this point.

Did not crank it any more to prevent further damage and had it towed home.

Took off the intake and saw water. Removed plugs and didn't see much there, maybe some dampness.

Removed the fuel pump fuse and cranked it a few times... looked like a fountain. Once all the water was gone, I put the plugs and fuse back in and tried it. It cranks freely with no noises, but didn't start.

It did sputter a few times like it was going to, but never stayed running. I gave up for now and will let it dry out some more before trying again.

Any ideas from the wise men here? Scott??? Erick???

I called my insurance co this morning and they said if I can't get it going they will send out an adjuster. I hope it doesn't come to that.

Oh yeah, definitely. I was planning on doing that as soon as I got it started again.

This blows.

don't wait - any additional water in motor along with the existing oil could create an overfull condition.

I hydrolocked an engine once. Mine wouldn't turn over at all, then the rods were bent.

Was that even after you removed the plugs?

Mine wouldn't crank when it first happened, but like I said I stopped trying, to avoid further damage. The engine was pretty much at idle when it took a drink.

Yes change the oil now even if it is just cheap stuff to see whats up . You dont want to have to clean the motor after the water and oil mix as it turns into pancake batter .
