Question for computer people
New computer works great! Nice and fast. I did not purchase a new monitor or speakers.
Speakers are connected and working, but I'm getting very little volume from them. They do not have volume controls on them.
I have gone into every setting I can find and have the volume up as high as it can go, but no improvement.
Any ideas? Or will I be buying new speakers tomorrow?
Rick won't like it if I buy some kind of fancy speakers for the computer..........it will remind him we have not yet purchased the "s" pods......

Did you try clicking on the control panel function? if so click on sounds and audio devices. After that sound and audio devices properies in that window on the bottom there are 2 options. 1 for speaker volume and the other for advance which then allows you to set up what type of speaker setup you have.

Speakers don't have a separate power cord. They are atttached to the monitor. There was one other outlet in the back if we plug the speakers into that, we get no sound, so I'm pretty sure it's in the right spot.
We'll play around with it more. I think we adjusted every setting there is.
Thanks all

Try "double clicking" or going to advanced properties for the volume and make sure every device is selected and has its respective volume is all the way up.
Unless you have the sound cable plugged into the "music in" or "mic" inputs? You want speaker cavle in the "music out", which should have an arrow pointing away from the musical note.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I checked again and I had every setting all the way up, and the cables in the correct ports. I could lower and raise the volume, but just could not get full volume.
Went back to the computer guy who said because the speakers did not have their own power source, they could not put out enough power.
So, a new set of speakers now goes with my new computer.
It's a cheap mod!

it's not the sound card that's bad because they don't control the volume.. that's controlled in software. The card either works or doesn't, my last dell came with a bad sound card and once swapped out alll was fine.
Sounds like the speakers to me.
Also some cheaper speaker manufacturers don't ship power supplies with their speakers, to save money they ship with a SSB cord to take the small amount of power available there. If that's the case here Lainey the USB power supplied is not high enough to power a sub woofer of other power hungry speakers. That may be why you have low volume but no avaiable extra power for higher volume. If you speakers have a power supply of their own just ignore what I just said.

Lainey!
Tell me what brand of computer you had before your new one.
Some brands of PC have onboard amplifers and provided speaker level output. I had a Compaq Presario a long time ago that did this.
I upgraded my PC a few years ago. Like you, I intended to use the old montior and speakers from my Compaq. I had the same volume problem and discovered I needed powered/amplified speakers.
I bought a nice set of Labtec speakers for around 40.00 and they work great.
Good Luck
