Jeff, really hope you find your cat. Like the others say call the shelters and tell them a good description of yours. They can call you if someone brings him in. Now with the AC thing, we dont run ours but thinking about it I have an idea why. My house is superinsulated as you may remember me telling you from when we talked about heating this winter. If I leave the shades down on the south side and dont open the windows in the day my house does not warm up much. For example sunday it got to 94 degrees outside my house inside didnt get higher than 74. Nice and cool. If I wait for it to cool down at night to 75 which is normally around 6 - 7 on a hot day than open the windows its equal temp wise in and out and as the outside cools so does the inside. Last night went to bed pulled the blanket down to the foot of the bed and slept with the light sheet. Woke up this morning and found both I and the plus 1 had pulled up the blanket in our sleep as it cooled down to mid sixties. So house started off cool this morning left the windows closed pulled the south side shades and came home this afternoon its 87 outside and house was at 72. Benefit of living here in summer is we dont need the ac often in our home. The days get hot but the nights cool off nicely We do run a dehumidifier for the basement though.

Could try bumping it up a couple degrees... 74/75 and NOT humid feels great when it's 90+ degrees and 90%+ humidity.

I may look into buying a portable ac unit just for the bedroom. Landlady pays the electric and if I stick one in the window she will start charging me more

Then tell her you are going to start sleeping in her room when it is hot

She'll go buy you an A/C herself

She doesn't have one either. If I stay here my rent will definitely go up again anyway come winter, it's inevitable with the fuel oil prices.

I have a spare a/c I could bring from Shoreham and throw in the window if I decide to pay her more. Probably cheaper to just do that. But it means a trip to Shoreham

Ok... I have my first data point. My AC used 7.72 kWh in a 24 hour period to keep pretty much my whole house at 72 degrees in ~90 degree weather. According to my electric bill, I used 132 kWh last month and was charged $27.28. It's broken up into a million separate charges, but to get a ballpark cost per kWh, I just divided the total cost by kWh and came up with ~21 cents a kWh. It cost me $1.62 to cool the house for the day. If I assumed it's going to be 90+ degrees every day, it'd cost me an additional $48.64 to run the thing like that the whole month.
i'm on my way over right now!!! you don't mind if i spend a few days

I asked the chick at Rite-Aid if I could bring in my laptop and work for awhile today

It's supposed to be cooler temps again later in the week.

We have one of those not too bright cats too. She took off for over 24 hours once, but she came home. Hoping the same for your kitty.

We'll see if your math agrees with the electric company math when you get the bill. Those guys are sneaky. You might get a surprise.
