hey whats going on all s2k owners. i dont own an s2 but i drive an gti. i talked to one of you. the guy with the red s2k. the track definitly was terrible. i pulled a 14.6 saturday. i could not hook up for the life of me. i had run there before on a big v8 day and was able to pull a 14.4. for import wars i dropped 200lbs by stripping my interior and couldnt get any better than the 14.6. i was expecting 14.2-14.0 but it wasnt going to happen. i noticed you guys couldnt hook up very well either. they didnt lay down traction compound (vht) all day. the announcers were idiots. i heard them calling the s2k a miata and they called a beetle a rabbit. nice to meet all you guys out there and i'm sure i'll see you all around.

Jay, What u doing in here? Hey let me tell u that drive home was nice, Iam still smilling after hitting vtec for the first time. Next time well have to aim for 150mph, boy were those cars going slow or was it just me? I think are passengers got a little nervous.

 

Well, I guess it was about time for me to show up... it was nice to meet Twiztid (oh, btw, I am the one with the Suzuka Blue at the Wars, and yes... I was the one speaking to you... ) So, I did go on the 1/4 mile... and let me tell you... IT SUX!!! well, I sucked.... let me tell you how it went, oh just remember it was my first time at the 1/4, and as any first times... something has to go wrong...

I get to the Wars around noon, and I lined up for the Heads Up against my friends stock WRX, so I think: "Oh, that would be cool... S2000 vs. WRX... now I will prove him that a VTEC can be faster than a turbo one... "

I line up for about 1 hour, and parked right behind the 360 Modena on the track, awaiting his turn... btw, I thought that the 360 F1 (the one with semis paddle shifters) have launch control, where the only thing he had to do was to step on the gas on the third yellow light! and I got no idea why he did it in high 13s... maybe the track was dusty! oh, yea, and talking about there was sand flying left and right, up and down... damn! OK, so let's not get side tracked on my story...

... so the Street Shootout starts... I am driving to the line... (remember, my first time... ) I stop about one foot over the line, and my friend on the white WRX as well, so both have to reverse! damn, that was embarrassing... ah.. not as bad as what happens next... (NO I DID NOT STALL!!!).... I am waiting for the light and remembering that I read on s2ki.com that the optimal is to launch at 7.5K, so that's what I did... revved to 7.5K... held it... first light... my hands are sweating... second light... getting cotton mouth... third light... hesitate... drop the clutch.... I get a R/T of 0.39, and finished the 1/4 in 19.97 secs!!!!!!!...

so you think... 19.97??? so let me tell you what happens... I drop the clutch at 7.5K, punched the gas and the freaking clutch starts slipping... (oh, I have about 2500 miles on it), it slips on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and gets going on 5th... therefore... 19.97 secs... a Minivan automatic could've beat me! oh.. and of course, the WRX beat me at 15.3... damn I suck!

I stop the car at the pits and the wonderful smell of burned clutch comes up... great! and I am just perplexed on what just happened... I go look for Twiztid (who just did a 14.4) and he tells me that he drops it at 7K and goes for it... so what happened to my clutch?

Then I am just not satisfied... I got for a second run (even with the clutch feeling weird.... it now slips on 1st gear half way out, but nonetheless I go for it...) this time on time trials, I get lined up with an Integra GSR... I decided to do a rolling start... so 3rd yellow light, I rev to 3K and there I go... then Integra jumps ahead... with a R/T of 0.77 and me, 1.5... then I punch the engine and go for it... final 1/4 at 15.5 secs.... phew... that's a 25% improvement!!! and I go from a letter grade F to a C-... happy enough... time to go home... with the smell of burning clutch still lingering in the car...

So now I ask you guys... what did I do wrong??? or what happened? my clutch still slips in first gear, so it is going back to the dealer tomorrow for a check up... Is it possible that my clutch was still not broken in at 2.5K miles? ... and if I need a replacement for the clutch, is it warrantable?

Well, to sum all this... I suck!

You need to sidestep the clutch - just drop it. If you even try to let it out slowly (anything less than an instant sidestep), all that hp will get consumed in slipping the clutch rather than the tires.

 

Miranda, how did the videos you took turn out? I'd like to see it sometimes.
