Default Scratched interior component

During the course of pulling my head unit out time and again and checking wires etc due to problems with it, I inadvertently scratched the hell out of the metal bracket that goes around the shift console. Im pretty pissed at myself as it was caused by shear stupidity.

Any suggestions or recommendations to replace/upgrade it?

very very easy fix for 00 and 01 owners

take some rubbing alcohol and remove the coating - it looks great when done

First of all, that square ring is plastic, not metal.

Here's the good news, albeit a bit of a pain: you can use rubbing alcohol to rub off the rest of the soft paint to reveal a polished metal-like finish - looks quite nice. A few of us have done this. I had a few hairline scratches on mine so I did the same just prior to selling my S. Taking it apart for the first time is the bit of pain aforementioned.

I did the same to mine, I pulled it apart. It really wasn't that hard at all, and I needed to know I got it ALL polished.

if you were an 02 you would have a boring black underneath. (some of my paint has rubbed away) I'd replace mine with an 00,01 and rub away but i'm too cheap to buy a used console at $75+

It that doesn't work....try some nail polish remover (toulene).....I have a can of Xylene that would work too.
