Many places will loan you a carrier BUT you really should have a decent one because at one point or another you will probably need to take the cat to the vet. There are vets that come to your house but they are alot more expensive.

I always just took my cats to the vet in the car. One would howl the whole way and the other loved riding in the car. The only problem with the one that loved the car was it would decide to get up on the dash right in front of me or explore the pedals on occasion.

I always have had carriers with a heavy duty handle on top that you can run a seat belt through.
