With the sunny weather tomorrow you better take your S out for a ride, that will help your state of mind.

I had and solved the same problem with cats with too much holiday spirit. I bought a small motion detector (like $15 at Home Depot) and rigged it up to a small vacuum cleaner hidden under the tree. Any noisy appliance will work, a blender, coffee grinder, etc. When the cats get too close to the tree the motion detector senses them and the vacuum cleaner starts up. The cats learned the exact spot where thay can sit as close to the tree as possible and not set off the noise. They sit there and whine and look miserable but don't approach the tree. There is plenty of time to build this unit. I can submit photos and instructions on request.

I think I bought this with an outdoor light fixture attached. I removed the fixture and wired in a female plug in it's place. I attached a male plug to the input leads. The fake plant is a simulated X-mas tree since it's only October. The CD jewel case is for scale. I plug the thing into a power supply (usually a seperate extension cord) and plug a noisy appliance into the female plug. Put the noise maker behind the tree and wait for the cats to come close.

This sets up a wedge of terror that the cats won't enter. Experiment with placement to get the best results.

Quite inventive.

Our cats would play with a few ornaments on the bottom, but I've never come home to find the tree down. Most of the time they just look at is as something to sleep under.

Wonder why Steve cats are "hell cats"?

Before this one of my cats actually climbed the tree. He didn't knock it down but that was just luck. He's an 18 lb load. After this he won't get close enough to touch it.
