The storm
So it's noon and I'm finally up. At least there was no work today (off-Friday).
No cable in the room
Can't make any kind of outgoing phone call on my cell, says "network busy".
That's how I will know when the power is back on...call the house and if
the answering machine picks up then I can go home.
Although I will probably go by today to make sure there isn't a 50 foot
pine going through the middle of it.
From what I hear, even when the precipitation stops, the temperatures are
going to stay in the 20s so this sh!t won't even melt off the trees.
And there's a state of emergency declared in NH.
Finally, the boss has the nerve to text me and tell me when the power comes
back on at work that I have to go in. Very large balls on that individual.

Chris, your best bet is to find a generator. Than hook it to your furnace power feed properly. Run the heat enough to keep the house at 50.
Every home owner in maine,nh vt and mass should own a generator. They dont cost a fortune for the little models and even a 3000 watt one will keep your fridge and furnace running.
i have a gentran switch hard wired into my breaker box. All i need to do is flip 6 switches and it takes the power off the grid and onto the generator. No danger of backfeeding the lines and killing a power line worker. If your going to do a generator eventually, do it RIGHT.
Now about that
storm there is about 2 inches of pretty much crusty ice in the yard and its not soft enough to shovel. GRRR driveway is gonna be crappy this winter.

Just saw a story on Tv, where some truckers this morning in saco were on a road working there way to poland spring to pick up yes that famous poland spring water. While driving down the road a tree fell on a passing tractor trailer bringing the power lines onto it. They have been stuck there for 7 hours now. Parked right in the middle of the road. They showed pictures lets put it this way its a backroad 2 lane its about 5 tractor trailer trucks running in tandem and there not going anywheres soon.
Latest now is 250,000 without power and it looks like sometime next week before some will think about seeing it restored.
My area did not to so bad, but its still a mess.

most definitely...that's my biggest worry. I don't mind the power being out,
the basement doesn't get cold enough to burst pipes and I didn't have a
problem with that last big storm and we were out like 5 days.
I just have some BIG trees close to my house that would level it if they
fell on top of my house. If that ice would melt and fall at least that threat
would be averted.

Mom just got back from the grocery store and said because they lost power they trashed all the meat and everything in the freezers , milk ,eggs ,cheese ..etc . This all before they could even open the doors I guess . What a waste .. I wounder if they think and bring it to the shelters for people or if it goes straight in the dumpster ??
