Thanks for all the replies...Rick would NEVER drill holes in this vehicle for a truck rack. He'd leave the top up and tie ME to the roof first if I pack that much stuff and we ran out of room! I WILL learn to pack lightly, in "squishable" duffle bags that will fit in the truck.
But we both like the beach, and prefer beach chairs while there. I can't see any beach chairs fitting in that trunk, so that's why we were thinking of the trunk rack.

We have travelled before with our S2000, and it has a ton more cargo space than most other sports cars.
Packing judiciously allows you to drive normally, without worrying about a luggage rack coming loose or scratching the paint (they were quite commonplace on sportcars a few years back, and were normally bolted down).
I guess my little tire trailer could come in handy if you were packing for a week, allowing you to disconnect it and lock it at your destination for some extra locked storage space. At least that's what I do with it when I'm at the track.
