Pay it and be over with it. It won't hurt your driving record much. He showed you the gun which means you'll probably lose in court.

okay guys, got a ticket for doing 48 in a 30 today on comm ave in boston, near bc. cop said it was a 30 mph zone and showed me the radar gun. gave me a 180$ ticket. i was nothing but polite to him, but i did not see a posted speed limit, so i circled around and tried to find it, i guess i didnt go back far enough, (past where i orignally turned onto comm ave!) cause i didnt see the sign, asked the officer, he said it was by the bc church??? i never saw the sign cause i turned on comm ave after the church, road seams like a 40-45 mph road, so now i got a 180$ and my perfect driving record is going to be screwed. Any advice? this sucks!
Seeing how you have a clean record . I would go to court and talk to the prosecutor and see if they will put it on file for a year and give you a probational period of one year no tickets . After that year passes and you stayed ticket free, it disappears.

Believe me I have been to court enough times over tickets I am on a first name bases with them Most of my tickets are arrestable offenses and I have yet to be arrested ( Triple the speed limit a few times , exhibition of speed and acceleration -- 110mph in the city -- , road racing ) Yes my fines are hefty . But by the time I leave the court room I only have a 30day lose of license and a couple hundred dollar fine ( I should have been locked up by the book and lost my license for at least a year for each offense) and I dont have a lawyer.

As far as I know, the state of MA allows ONE ticket without any loss of safe driving credits. If you can afford the time, appeal it and see what happens. Who knows, maybe they will dismiss it.

If you don't want to spend time in court, pay it and just don't get another for the next six years. Actually, I'm not sure how long it stays on your record. Your insurance agent would be able to help you on that one.

My older brother was a cop for 6 - 8 years, and told me to always file for a magistrate hearing. He said they usually knock the fine down to the minimum ($50) just for showing up and having a 1/2 decent excuse. Worked for me once. Good luck!
