Thumbs up Windshield replacement

I posted this question in a thread in S2000 talk and didn't get anything useful.

Does anyone have experience with replacing the windshield in their S and is
there a such thing as windshield brands that are better quality than others?

Recommendations on which ones are better and ones to stay away from would
be greatly appreciated as I will be replacing my windshield this spring. One thing
to keep in mind is that in NH there is no glass coverage so I will be paying for this
myself and I don't mind paying a little more for better quality glass that will last
longer and resist chipping, pitting, etc. better.

Also, good and bad installers would be useful to know about.

Finally, someone mentioned in that thread that there's a "laminate" you can put
on a new windshield that, once that gets pitted or damaged, you can peel it off
and the windshield underneath is still in good shape. Has anyone used these and
how did they work for you? Was it worth the money? How is your vision through
the laminate?

Thanks in advance for any information!!

Thats an oxy moron. More chip resistant implies better glass, not the other way around.

As for me. I get what the insurance company gives me and it's been OK. The S has a replacement window that has been OK as does my neon. No idea what they use. I came home from work and my car in the driveway had new glass on it

The thing is I have to pay

Or else I would just go with what they gave me because when it got
bad again I would just make them pay again.

So that's why I'm researching so I can get a better glass and not have
to do this again anytime soon.

I'm considering a new windshield myself, but my concern is that while I'm fine with the OEM glass, the question is where to get it installed.

I remember getting a new windshield in our family station wagon a few years ago, and while the glass itself was fine, they used some glue and some generic looking rubber surround. Same thing with my Dad's company car when it got a nasty crack. The replacement trim just never looked quite right. In fact, it looked like what I'd expect from one of those "We come to you" replacement glass people.

I never had a problem, but it never looked right. If it was my beater, I wouldn't care... but I'm hesitant to trade a slightly sandblasted windshield for a cheap non-original looking surround.

Does the dealer put more care into installation than a glass place? Or do they just outsource it?

uhhmm my E has 115K on it and the windshield shows it.
either that or somebody hit it with a sandblaster.
driving home into the sun last night was awful.
may be getting close to that time.
