Default Winter Driving?

Looking for anyone out there (Mas?) who drives, or has driven, their S through the winter months. A friend of mine is looking at purchasing an S and despite all the good deals he has been offered is still reluctant to go forward. His concern is how bad the winter months will be as a second car will likely not be affordable for him.

So, hoping a few people out there would be willing to share their winter-wonderland experiences with him. Simply post them here or PM me and I'll print them out for him to read.

Thanks a bunch!

of concrete in the trunk and the car handles
fine in the snow...... as long as you stay out
of V-TECH !!!!!!.... also there is a guy who
lives in Canada and drives everyday in the
snow.... hope this helps.... tell your friend

Snow tires are pretty much mandatory. I drove it last winter with the OEM tires, but we didn't get much snow. This season, I bought a spare set of wheels and mounted snow tires on them. Just drive it with respect and you will be OK. We have had snow on the ground since Christmas, this year. The only "problem" I have here is the DOT people are too efficient. They have the streets cleaned very quickly. I have to go out of my way to drive in the snow. I like to drive in the snow, it's fun.

This car handles very well in the snow. I drive mine daily, it's how I get to work. I feel like xviper, I got the car to drive it, not make a garage queen out of it.

I have 56k miles and drive my s every day. I drive back and forth from Jersey to CT, and often this winter in inclement weather. As long as you get snow tires and add a little weight in the trunk he will be fine. My friend who has a GTI got stuck in a 4 inch snow covered lot while i didnt have a problem. Its all about the tires.

Yes, I still drive all thru winter. Four Pirelli 210 winter sports tires and no problems. This sales guy at the dealership where I bought my car asked me how the car handled in winter. Affter I told him I have no problems with winter tires he bought an S2k a few months back. He's using a bit more agressive (less dry performance/handling and more snow/ice traction) winter tires, I believe they are Nokian Hakas.
