In NH if you're related to a police officer, you will most likely not be allowed to
serve on a jury.

Judge: Are you deaf?

Answer: Huh whats that you said? Icant hear ya.

Judge Excused!

 

Each time I've been called, I mention that my brother is a former cop, and an uncle was Chief in Brookline. They won't take me. But . . . when I was called for Grand Jury duty (no defense lawyers there) it seemed like the minute they heard of my law enforcement "connections" they chose me. Go figure.

 

Yeah, they will want someone who likes law and order for the grand jury.

 

They dismissed me! Somehow it feels like a victory though.

The judge asked me if there was anything that would prevent me from focusing my attention on a ~12 day trial. I launched into a tirade about how my workplace would implode without an IT guy for that long.
