This thread is sad. You should all want to do jury duty!
I think I'd want to pass on that trial too. My son served on a jury a few years ago, he enjoyed the experience. I've been called a few times, never got selected for a trial.
What does the law require an employer to do regarding payment of employees on jury duty? I had some paperwork given to me years ago, that listed the employer obligation at three days. If that is correct, I know what would happen to my paycheck if I had to serve for 12. The "payment" received from the courts, wouldn't quite pay the bills.

So I got full pay, made $50 and got a week off from work. On top of that it was fun.

and Erick,
does this count as having served even though you got an exemption for length of trial?

Depending on where the court was I'm not sure the $50 would cover gas and lunch.

I think just showing up clears me for 3 years. Although, I'm not positive about that.
BUT, you could still be called to federal court, as the service to the local courts does not excuse you from jury duty at a federal level.
