Takes me a little over an hour to do my mother in laws place with a walk behind mower.
As for my place I spend about 2 hours on my Toro tractor, not counting the every other mowing trimming.

I have a rider for the large areas and a push mower for the narrow spots I can't get in with the rider. After that I go around with the weed wacker. In all, it takes me about an hour and a half to do it all, but my grass looks like shite.

I really need to just rip the whole thing up, have fresh loam put down and leveled and start new. Way too much damage from the pine and grubs and lack of water. Until I do the addition on the house, I am not sweating it.

Be careful doing the work in the hot sun, if possible, wait until the sun is below the trees or first thing in the AM.

Anyone with a small yard ever try one of the new battery powered electric mowers? I have a co-worker who swears by his Neuton.

Our 20+ year old Toro might be on the last legs. I had a heck of a time getting it to work properly last week. Rick gave it a little tune up and oil change yesterday, but it appears the transmission may be gone. It's not "self propelling" properly. I don't mind mowing the grass, but this girl needs a self propelled mower.

So, if he can't get fix or get the old mower fixed for cheap, should we go green and buy electric? I did a little searching last night, and the newer battery operated ones should work just fine for our yard. Self propeller, mulches and has a rear bag....

I've never used a battery powered mower, but I have used a plug-in electric mower. As long as you don't wait 'til the grass is 6" high or try to mow it when it's wet, they work surprisingly well. This was a much older electric model, so I'd imagine some new battery powered ones do quite well.

And for those who are curious, yes, it takes skill to mow a lawn with a mower that has an extension cord. The mower handle pivots from one side to the other, so you actually do not turn the base of it. You start closest to the power source, and mow perpendicular to the cord. When you get to the edge, you swing the handle over to the other side, and go back the other direction.

No way would I use a mower with a cord. We'd have to buy stock in an extension cord manufacturer.

here ya go lainey

"The Robomower RL 850 is a natural evolution to the next level in lawn care: automatic mowing. The Robomower provides exceptional cutting quality, equal to or better than a walk-behind mower. Replace your traditional 21" mower with Robomower and spend your time doing more important things. Operation couldn't be easier. Just drive it (using the included manual controller) to the area to be mowed, activate the perimeter controller and press "Go." Working from the outside in, Robomower will mow your entire yard! "

and it's only $1,500.00

I don't mind mowing the lawn, just don't want to have to push the mower. I think we can spend about 1/3 of that (or less) and get a fine mower.
