I would like to get a wood stove of some sort eventually. Probably when we do the addition to the house. What is the difference in cost between buying wood and oil/gas?

not much unless you do what i do and buy logs and cut and split them

a cord of wood = 100 gallons of oil and sells for around 175 / 225 so that's like 2.00 a gallon of oil

however i buy a cords worth of logs (give or take) for 75.00 and i cut / split it so that works out to about .75 a gallon of oil

heck if you ever do a detail with tree guys - or know any tree guys they would want to drop off all the hard wood for free because they have to pay to dump it

nothing beats wood heat it's a nice dry HOT (as you want) heat

got mine for $200.00

someone in Norfolk was giving it away - i just had to pay to remove it from their home mine is a insert that fits right in the fireplace

BUT - for a small nice new woodstove figure about $1,000.00 or even home depot for around 700.00

if you're in the market - keep an eye on craigslist as there are always killer deals on newer stoves

Yeah, it won't happen this winter for sure, but I am looking forward to a nice set-up at some point. I will be sure to consult with you before I get anything!
