Default Got question about the right Tire?

Hey Guys / Girls

For the last couple days I recieved email, phone calls, PM from some of you or close friends regarding tires.

some of you know that I'm in the tire industry and somewhere around this time
I usually get the same questions " winter tire or all season tires"
let me explain to you so you can understand better about tires.

1st
their is not a such of thing as "all season"
when you "have to stop" on a rainy day or wet/icy day the tire wont help you.
everything that goes up must come down right?

This word it's a catch word for the tire Industry, "sales"
since most people dont buy 2 set of tires ( summer and winter)
the Tire industry came up with a "all season tire"
which is a combo of summer tire and winter tires.
which means you're not getting a top rated tire.

IF you have a mid size vehicle go for it, but in our case S2000 Owner IT WILL NOT HELP
unless you buy a winter set. We have sport cars and we need High perfomance tires

Every time you look for tires "always" keep in mind about the rating, which they are : Temp, traction and wear.
here are some examples to let you guys undestand better.

Temperature (heat resistance) is graded "A" (highest); "B," or "C" (lowest). A "C" grade represents the minimum performance standard required by federal regulation. Currently, 27 percent of tires are rated "A," 59 percent are rated "B" and 14 percent are rated "C." A tire's ability to resist heat is an important safety factor.

Traction also is rated with letter grades. A tire that carries a higher grade should allow a car to stop on a wet road in a shorter distance than a tire with a lower grade. Traction is graded "AA" (highest), "A," "B" or "C" (lowest). Currently, 3 percent of tires are rated "AA;" 75 percent are "A;" and 22 percent are "B." There is only one line of tires rated "C."

In grading for treadwear, a control tire is assigned a grade of 100. A tire with a grade of 200 can be expected to last twice as long as the control tire, while a tire with a grade of 80 is normally less durable. Currently, the highest reported treadwear rating is 700; 98 percent of tires rank 600 or below; 92 percent rank 500 or below; 72 percent rank 400 or below; 40 percent rank 300 or below; and 15 percent rank 200 or below.

The most common performance ratings are listed below:

Performance Rating Top Speed

S = 112 mph

T = 118 mph

U = 124 mph

H = 130 mph

V = 149 mph

W = 168 mph

Y = 186 mph

Z = Above 149 mph

EXP : Bridgestone Potenza S-02 Rear: 225/50WR16

225 = Section width in millimeters
50 = Aspect ratio
w = top speed 168MPH
R = Radial tire
16 = Rim diameter in inches

92W = 1389 Pounds

Remenber "safety" it's the most important thing, especially when your a$$ is on the line, sometimes we do triple digits and the last time we want to see it someone to get hurt because he/she wanted to save couple $

If your S is your all year around vehicle do some research and get some Winter tires NOT all season, Do it right, During the Summer you def need Perfomance tires and for the Winter get some Winter tire

I hope this will help you to make the right choice

Yeah... unfortunately, some of us spend $1500 a month supporting our parents and can't afford two sets of tires...

I drove all last winter... and you know it was a sh!tty winter on Goodyear Eagle RSAs... which are a crap tire... and I did just fine... with no spinouts... didn't get stuck... no issues and you know how I drive...

If anyone is willing to buy some winter tires for me or put food in my parents mouths, I would be happy to go the winter tire route... Unfortunately, I can not.

Does it hurt the tires to remove and re-mount them. I wasn't going to buy a second set of rims unless I had to but will if it will hurt the tire or performance.

Can someone recommend a good winter tire? I know this must have been addressed at least a dozen times, but for some reason the search feature on the board is not working. Not sure if the board itself is down atm.
