Grinded gear for the first time..
I learned stick shift in may..with my S and never grinded gear til today..I was trying to shift extra fast and depressed the gas before the gear was in to 2nd and that's when I heard a nasty grinding noise..
my question is what parts are affected by this? synchros? just the clutch? transmission?? I will be replacing my clutch soon so I hope only the clutch is affected...
I mean..is grinding gears bad?? well it's probably bad but doing it once? I won't do it again I promise

i did the same exact thing last night, my problem was i didnt hit the clutch quick enough and i just forced the shifter into 2nd gear. makes me want to change my transmission fluid for the 3rd time.

If I had a dollar for everytime I grinded gears....
I'd almost have enough money to get another S.
Well, maybe not THAT much...
but the gears are fine and I have my clutch fluid checked regularly.

To help you understand what happened you actually let the clutch up before you fully put it in to 2nd, not depressed the gas. Its the synchros that you hear grinding when you do that. The gears in the transmission are fixedly meshed with each other and the synchros are the parts that help engage each gear.
Even though you promised you can bet it wont be the last time you do it!

Now what about matching the engine revs while rolling in neutral and slipping it into gear smoothly without pressing the clutch? I heard it's not really good to do that, is it true?
