Default Honda says "Not Yet" re: S2000

How do you guys feel about this? I was personally really looking forward to seeing what a "new" S2k would be like.

For some reason, I also feel like this might just be a way of building up some more hype about it? Who knows....

I agree, it's not time. Honda has a lot of pressure to replicate the same success as the original S2000. Honda would not only have to see a market but undergo a lot of testing and design phases to ensure a perfect S2000 successor. They can't even acknowledge that the transmission in the new CTR is having issues. I think they understand that it will be more pressure to introduce a S2000 successor than to introduce a redesigned CTR to the Americas.

IMO, gas only is the way to go. Hybrid wouldn't be as fun and would only push the cost way up and therefore, limit the consumer base. Forget about a pure electric version.

The original S2000 did so well because it was simple yet innovative. Not sure lightning can strike twice with the same formula.

Midnightdennis- Every single one of your points is spot-on. I couldn't agree more.

If the S2000 was re-invented, the difference between new & old would be as vast as the difference between the new NSX & the old NSX. I'm not trying to say that a new S2K would be anything like the new NSX- just saying the immense difference would be the same.

Also- I did not know about the CTR issues. That really sucks.

Honda should do what Fiat just did and put S2000 badges on a MX5. Maybe stick in the Civic Type R engine. Did Alfa do something similar too? Market is saturated it seems.

If I was Honda I would at least wait until the new supra/z4 comes out and see how it does before coming out with another sports car. Like Chuck said there are too many cars in this category at this time.

Not sure you can compare the Supra to the S2000 but Honda should follow Toyota's mentality with respect to their brand's most loved car. New 2019 Toyota Supra to use Gazoo Racing badge | Auto Express
