Default Moving to NYC...is it worth keeping my car?

My fiancé and I are planning to from CA to NYC next year and I am wondering if it will be worth it for me to keep my car? Monthly parking in a garage seems very expensive, but really the option when living in the city. We are planning to use the public transportation and the car on occasion...I do attend track days here in CA and I'm not sure how likely those will be in New York. I'm not sure of the tracks there. Im just trying to figure this out. This is the only hesitation I have about moving there. Thanks for your help in advance!

There are some areas in the city that have free parking. It all depends on what part of the city you are moving to, how expensive your mods are, and how paranoid you are of leaving your S in the streets.

I would put the S in the garage if I were you. But, it really depends on where you move in NYC.

if you really plan on living in NYC i wouldn't bring it unless you plan on living on the jersey side and taking the metro.

I lived in Manhattan for 3 years and just recently moved out to Long Island. I lived on west 162nd and Amsterdam. I parked my S on the street everyday. No boddy messed with the car. There was acouple S2k's around the area up there.

You have to garage the S..that's # 1..it'll get torn up in the streets. What you can do is look for a spot in like Queens..Astoria/LIC or something like this close to the city..you rent indoor garages for a single car between $125-$175..if you get a parking spot in a city garage for get about it..your looking at like $300 a mo. minimum

You can live in Manhattan & park the s2k in a garage across the river (NJ). You could find a garage w/in 30mins (using public transportaion) from NYC.

There are quite a few tracks available (w/in 8hr driving distance) - VIR, Watkins Glen, Lime Rock, NJMP to name a few. However, the events in the East costs more compared to the events held in Cali. Im envious that you guys can track all year round w/ a cheaper price to boot.

Only you can determine if paying for a garage is worth it. One thing is for sure.. if you care about your car, do not park it on the street.

Where are you guys finding indoor parking spots for 125-175? I've been looking on and off but haven't seen much.
