Default NY to DC (the long way)

Hey Metro,

I'm going to DC for a visit (probably next weekend) and was wondering if any of you have taken the backroads from NY to DC. I have made this trip about a dozen times but I am thinking of not taking the NJ turnpike this time around and maybe see some interesting things along the way. Maybe there is a east coast version of the Route 66? Any suggestions? Thanks.

I don't think what you are looking for exists. There are a number of smaller roads that you could piece together to get down there avoiding the turnpikes but they aren't anything special.

It would also take forever to get there

best advice - just take the tpk.. if you want views, hit up NYC... there's plenty there

I just made the trip this weekend

i took route 206 to avoid the turnpike, going from 287 to princeton.

big mistake. 1 lane road with a ton of traffic lights. added a full hour to what the trip nomally takes.

Thanks guys. It does sound like the additional traffic/pain far outweigh the interesting sights. Oh well.
