Miyabi - W3rd and 6th Ave in the Village for sushi
Right next door they serve up some hot jazz at "the world famous" Blue Note but don't go there to eat.
Ruth Chris - Garden City for steaks
Bubby's - on Hudson Street in Tribeca for brunch
Momofuku Noodle Bar - 1st Ave for delicious noodle soup

if you want a $$$ place, i suggest the Ryland Inn in Whitehouse, NJ. He is one of the top 5 chefs in america. amazing food and very expensive. the average meal for a couple is $300+. I used to valet there back in college and i got hooked up with free food at a few parties that were held there. delicious doesnt even describe the food. its simply amazing. he has his own vegtable and herb garden in the back of the restaurant that he uses in his foods. i remember i saw him on a tv cooking show about a yr after i stopped working there. he made some awesome lobster dish. the steak and chicken are the 2 dishes i had. the chicken was in some raspberry sauce and was awesome.
some personal favorites in no particular order:
1) river palm terrace -steak house in north jersey
2) mortons
3) ruth's chris
4) peter lugers
5) hana - sushi in ridgewood
as for chains i like chilis the best. i always go there.

Here's my 2 cents of good places to eat:
Thai food: "Sriphaphai" in Woodside Queens. IMHO this is the BEST THAI PLACE to have Thai food in all of Queens!!!! Nobody else can even come close!!!! On weekends be prepared to wait close to 30-60 minutes before you are seated at a table... thats how busy it gets!!
Peruvian "Pio Pio", makes great rotisserie style chicken!!!! I highly recommend this place.... locations in Queens and manhattan
Colombian "pollos con marios", various locations thruout queens, this place serves off the hook spanish/colombian dishes.....
Ecuadorian "Barzolas", great spanish food as well, live salsa band on friday and saturday nights, after 11pm it becomes a night club
Indian "Taj Mahal" in manhattan on east 6th street between 1st and 2nd aves. The entire block is filled with Indian restaurants.... awesome food, large portions, fair prices!!!
There are other places that I like but these places stand out in my mind as my favorites
Can ya handle spicy food mary?
