I suspect a bad fuel pump in the surge tank, it seems to act up only when it gets hot.

Jake and I will swap out the pump in the gas tank with a 340 and put a new Walboro 255 in the surge tank.

Hmm very interesting, which leads to yet another question. Was it the increased horsepower or increased lateral g force that necessitated the surge tank?

I am in run group 7 and we don't go to the grid until 4:55 if they stay on schedule.

Qualified 3rd in class, 1/2 second off the 2nd place guy and and 13 seconds off 1st place. Car is running horrible, worst its run all year.

Weather is beautiful, 60 degrees and sunny, much better than the snow we had last year.

It was a long day on Saturday and with all the delays our qualifying was cut short as well as our race.
The weather held and it was sunny and 60 degrees, the forecast had called for rain but it never came.

Running last really sucks, you are affected by every delay from all the previous run groups.

I qualified 3rd but my time was way off, I knew I had to step it up to beat the two guys that were my closest rival. So I put on my best Hoosier R7's and tightened the dampers up a bit. PIRC's new section is very technical and has a cork screw just like Lagna Seca (Maxda Raceway). It also has some nice evaluation changes where horse power shines. Two very long fast straights make for an exciting lap. My car was till acting up, felt like it was falling out of VTEC coming out of the turns, makes it very hard to get a consistent lap.

The race ended being 20 min or 10 laps and I had a good battle with the #25 BMW and the #91 Mustang. With the better tires I had a bit more grip and some more confidence and in the end it paid off. We all started together, I got a good start and I made an early pass but it didn't stick, they both got by me going up the first hill because I made the mistake of following a Miata. So I followed a lap and knew my car was faster on the long straights and up the two hills. I watch the two of them battle for a lap then I made my move on the Mustang.going up the 2nd hill, got by clean only to be passed again in T1. I made a very rare (yes even I do it) miss shift and went in neutral followed by a 4 to 3 shift. I got flustered for a turn or two and then got back into it, closed in on the 91 and passed him going up the 1st hill, same place they passed me lap 1. He didn't give up easy and if you watch the second video of the backwards camera you will see him fighting hard to get back around. I was a bit nerveous because this was the same guy who T-boned me at Watkins back in 2014 - happened right in front of Paul who was in the bleachers. On to the 25 BMW. who seem to be having trouble getting around the traffic, I caught him going up the 2nd hill and one of the T2 Camaro's was in front of him. I used the the Camaro as a blocker and got by the BMW, 2 turns later I got by the Camaro and set sail. The Mustang had caught the BMW and they began to battle, bot had trouble getting pas the Camaro and when they did I had a 5 second lead.
The Mustang finall got by the BMW and was realing me in the last 2 laps, closed to within 3 seconds but I held on. Not sure if he remembers I was the guy he slammed.

Ironically the top three STU drivers were the very same as in 2015 when I ran my first Majors race. Jake had come to Watkins to run with SCDA and he got to watch that race.

Front video - Race starts at 5 min mark.

Rear video - have to be Red Mustang #91 and BMW #25

Today we wake up to rain and fog...but since we don't qualify till noon, a lot can change.

Excellent report Greg. Loved reading the detailed account of your charge to the podium.

Will watch the video at some point today. Good luck for today's qualifying and race.

Awesome racing Greg. Watched the video just now. Nice work to get past the cars into clean air.

Hoping todays race is going much like or better than yesterdays and you are all set for the runoffs.
