I need to do something other than record races on my VCR
I will not pay a monthly fee for a recording service from my cable provider
Do they make something like a VCR that takes DVD's?
How costly are they?
Any specific product suggestions?

Doug, DirecTV and DVR!

Yes it's $5 a month for the service but you're going to spend that on DVD's
and I'm not 100% sure but I would think any decent DVD recorder is going to
cost you a couple hundred bucks. Let's say $250, that's a YEAR of the DVR
service and in 2 years the DVD recorder will be obsolete.

You can get 100 hours of stuff on the regular DVR, you can pause and rewind
live TV and it's soooo easy to set up stuff to record! You find Formula 1
Racing on Speed and say "record series" and every time a Formula 1 race comes
on Speed it's automatically done for you!

You can also get an HD DVR so everything you record that's in HD plays back in HD!

Mark, trust me he needs DVDs. His collection of races and seasons would take up an entire data center. A DVR would never be enough for the collection he has on tape.

There are DVD Recorders out there, you can record shows to a dvd much in the same way you would record a program with a VCR to a cassette tape.

I have zero personal experience with them, so I can not say more than that.

This should get you started in the right direction:

Aash's wisdom is coming to the surface.
I also think, if I have a device that records and plays DVD's, I might get motivated and sort through my old Senna race tapes and get them copied forward to DVD.
