So pay attention to fashion, trendy colors, and the current aesthetic. Those things are important, but trying to tell anyone that all of the trashy, insipid, and completely useless actions and words of a bunch of "celebrities" is culturally important is a load of BS.

Whatever Kanye did has no direct bearing on your life decisions such as who your family and friends are, where you live, and whether you're employed or not and it doesn't have any bearing on mine or anyone else on this board.

kanye west is 100% important to fashion and culutre. He designs with marc jacobs for luis vuitton, no matter how ugly his designs are, theyre a part of fashion. just because its not important to you doesnt mean its not important culturally

 

Aaahhhhh but you didn't say that before. You were talking about the whole VMA situation. I'll grant you his design work and I'll even admit that probably has a place in our culture. But whatever he does/says at events like this is worthless and unimportant (other than something to talk about for a little while).

 

something that half the nation, and probably the entire world, is talking about can not be considered not culturally important. Go put on any tv show, this is all anyone is talking about. not just on MTV or "stupid" channels, but on shows and channels that everybody watches. I bet when I go to school tomorrow this is what everyone will be talking about. Something that is talked about so much is obviously important. Kanye West is a cultural icon, and anything he does is important because everyone will talk about it.

And the VMAs in general are very important. the fashions and acts influence alot of aspects of culture you dont even realize.
