I have one friend from Japan, but she went to an international school so she sounds so American, no hint of an accent whatsoever. She doesn't even look very Japanese. Im convinced she's from Connecticut or something and just wants to sound more exotic.

 

Wishiwahi, your defense on "cultural" importance to the VMA's and people like k-west reminds me of arguements I used to have with my ex-girl. She was a producer and was sooo involced in that world, as I'm sure you are since you are going into the fashion industry for a career.
However, these things are important in your life and many you know because of your career choice and school. They are such a meaningless aspect to others who pay little to no attention to this. Saying that "everyone" watches the VMA's .. So untrue. Saying that VMA'ers are culturaly important. So not true again. Fashion and so called fashion icons are not cultural icons. My ex used to say the same about some nasty slut rapper, who oddly enough has since left the spotlight and I can't even remember her name. Kanye west will be gone and forgetten in years to come. Bet on that. These things are important in your world not everyones. The world is a mighty big place B)

Exactly. The 14-25 crowd is enamored with this stuff not realizing that the bulk of people in this world aren't in that age group and could care less what Kanye does or how much of a trainwreck Britney Spears is. They're busy spending time with family and friends, earning a living, and following issues that affect their neighborhoods and the country (like school budgets, taxes, etc). Most of these celebrities are nothing in the grand scheme of things.
Kanye's music is largely sampled, he's no Beatles. Those Nike's are just going to be someone's smelly old shoes, he's no Ralph Lauren. There's a HUGE difference between being timely and timeless. Kanye is timely, he's around for now but he will be gone eventually.
