Default ****ing suckups at work.

the boss is here today (never hear because his office is 3 hours up north)

and boy did this prick co-worker (been here for 3 years and UNDER paid) of mine dress up like a ****ing tool and hes up his ass. Running around grabbing all the print outs for him, asking him if he wants a bagel, made his coffee.

WOW - seriously. **** this guy. Im here to do my job and treat my boss like my boss. I respect but I'm gonna worship the ground he walks on. Raise or no Raise or whatever the hell.

PS - Its not like our boss is here to give promo/raise. Hes here to discuss the extension of a contract with the council members.

Know anyone like this?
Whats your thought on this?

I will never demote myself to this - we are all equals.

there is nothing wrong with what your coworker is doing as long as the boss doesn't mind.

let me clarify: if you can justify your existence with performance and convey your ROI effectively, sucking up to your boss (if he or she doesn't mind) is not an issue.

I think every office has someone like this. I know my work does. My boss at my current job actually was the one who hired me at the last place I work... So I already have good rapport and feel no need to kiss @$$... but there are constantly people in his office, hanging around in there all the time trying to schmooze him... Funny thing is, if they actually knew him like I do.. Theyd know he hates people who do that

most people can't stand a suckup, so you should ordinarily not have to worry about them. there are rare cases though... and the kind of boss that actually likes the suckups is the kind of boss you don't want to work for.

If its about promotions or recognitions your work and how well you full fill your job duties will show.
If someone else is brown nosing and not producing then that opens more opportunities for you.

I don't kiss my bosses @$$, I work hard. When I'm in a meeting with my boss and our directors its funny to watch the people who brown nose and provide coffee because even though they are my "equals" I'm in the decision making seat getting involved in the strategic planning while they are to busy trying to make the bosses happy with coffee and treats. That does not help the overall goals of the organization.

Every time a decision needs to made, a deadline needs to be met, or even a promotion it is given to me and my peers who work on getting our jobs done, not the coffee and bagels peers....
