1080P projector
If you play a regular DVD, you will need HDMI to upconvert to 720p (or 1080p), even on a PS3/BD player.
720p projectors are cheap now. under $1000 street is pretty common.
go to AVS forum and read about the PJ you are interested in. Usually Mitsu is a great choice for budget.
If your room is not 100% light controlled, make sure you get a bright one.
go to projector central and use the calculator. it is VERY important to know where your PJ will be mounted. the distance to the screen completely dictates picture size +-3%.
I run an acer PH530. My mount option was fixed at 17', so based on the throw, i was stuck at 120". It works but is dim with any ambient light at all.
also, bulbs usually run 2-3000 hours and cost $3-600. I use my PJ all the time and still only have 1200 hrs after 15 months.
get a receiver that upconverts all signals to HDMI (like onkyo 606)
then you just need to run a single cable to the PJ.
get your cables from monoprice.
do not get an extended warranty, under $1k PJs are throw aways. you will be able to get a 1080p next year for the same price.

also, component cables will run 1080p all day. copy protection prevents this in most applications.
HDMI is the only way to get the advanced CODECs like DD/DTS-HD, plus or Master.
and that is more limited to HDMI 1.3. If you run component with Toslink or coax audio, you will only get 768k DD or DTS.
