Default 2002 with Formula-1 style paddle transmission

Just read an article in the NYTimes about the new 2002 M3 with clutchless transmission.

http://www.nytimes.com/2001/11/25/automobi...les/25NEIL.html

It's probably the first production vehicle under $100k with this sporty technology.

Does anyone see a new trend?.......
to follow.... possibly Z3, Posche Boxster, and even the S2000?

The new MR2's have the clutchless shift buttons on the sterring wheel and they only cost in the low $20's.

But do the MR2S's have 333hp behind their sequential transmissions?

Can't wait... my SMGII M3 left Bremerhaven, Germany today and will be arriving in Port Hueneme, CA on 12/24.

those mrs2's are auto. not manual.

this is a manual system. no torque converter... no massive drivetrain losses... HIGHLY programmable, 10+ shift modes. etc etc

Um, actually the MR2S's do have true sequential manual transmissions as options... just fixed to a 5 speed gearbox, not 6 like the M3... and obviously they also don't shift in 80ms either.

oh, and there are 11 driving modes for the M3 SMGII, 5 in auto, 6 in manual...
geez I know far too much about bimmers.

Here's my FAQ:
