Default 2002 Honda Odyessy

Well, I guess I'm getting old, I'm actually going to buy a minivan. The frontrunner in the search is the 2002 Honda Odyessy (leather & DVD).

Does anyone on the board have any experience with this model or earlier YM's? I can't seem to find anyone to give the thing a bad rap. Is it really that good (as minivans go)?

Thanks for any input....and don't worry, the S2K stays!

This van gets very good press, and, it's a Honda. It has a 3.5 liter, 240 HP engine, and lots of goodies for the family (room, DVD player, etc.). I don't think you could go wrong for around $25K, if you can find one.

My mom just bought the Van a couple of months ago just like the one you are describing, it is Granite Green Metallic with gray leather and the DVD player. It is a tight van (that is for a van). It has 240 hp a 5 speed auto, it drives really smooth. One thing though it has some body sway so some better sway bars or lowering springs would be in order. Any other ??'s just let me know, it has about 1500 miles on it.

Welp, when I drive my wife's '01 Oddyssey, I really like it - for a van that is. We've had it since April and it is very good thus far. No complaints whatsoever, except I was an idiot and paid $1000 over MSRP for it. Damn when will I learn. Is leather a Honda option for the 2002? I got leather and a moonroof put in by the dealer but it was a dealer option, not a Honda option.

I chose not to go with the Entertainment system since you can buy a 13" color tv/vcr combo for a few hundred bucks and stick it in a laundry basket on the floor

So I have 2 240HP VTECs

My co-worker has a '01 and that is the coooolest minivan I've
ever seen. Got to have that GPS thingy someday. He loves the
van and has had no problems with it.

If I ever needed (GOD forbid ) a minivan, I would get a
Odyessy. Actually I had a Honda Odyessy, but it wasn't a van.

I had a '00 Odyssey EX that I just traded. It is the best handling minivan there is in addition to being the best minivan out there, period!

We replaced it with a '02 CRV though a '02 Odyssey was a strong contender. Since we also have an MDX, we decided that having an Odyssey as well would be overkill.

I'd recommend an Odyssey!

I bought my S2000 and Od (2000) at the same time.
I love the Od! I never thought I would get a van but I'm glad I did.

The only negative thing I have to say about it is on the MY 2000
there is no arm rest on the left of the drivers seat.

I have the Navi system and would recommend it.
It has gotten us out of a quite a few traffic jams etc.
Driving down 5 to L.A. it's smooth and has
good get up and go. 2002 models even have more HP than MY 2000.

It passes all the crash tests with the highest ratings.
And the hideaway back seat comes in real handy.

Best of all it's a Honda.

Good luck!

Ironwedge,

My wife has a MY2001 Odyessy and we both really love it. We got it in August of this year and the only thing that I would like to have is the new engine and transmission. The MY2002 has 240HP and a 5 speed automatic.

It gets good gas mileage, has decent acceleration and it can haul just about anything. We just brought home our 8 foot Christmas tree Saturday and it was completely inside the van with no problem.

I really like the "magic seat" in the rear. It's very handy. The center seats also adjust front to back and remove very easily.

The van gets the best reviews and has the best crash ratings. What's not to like? The price is better than the competition and the handling is much better, also. It doesn't handle as well as my MY2001 S2000, though. javascript:smilie('')

The only down side is the month wait that you will have, unless you are lucky.

Try one, I think that you will like it,
Bob
