As a fledgling designer the best thing that you can do is find a stable job with good benefits, use that income to pay your bills. Then establish a solid base of freelance work and use that income to play with.
this is the best advice here. practically the only way to get ahead in the graphic design industry is to work for yourself.

Do you have a portfolio? Did you graduate from one of the 3 GD schools that is worth a shit?

Re: salary, expect to make jack-shit.

Re: company, sounds like some bullshit.

Yeah, reality sucks -- but you did it to yourself. GD is a tough area with many dues to pay.
But at least he isn't an idiot to every person he meets (online, since everyone else punches you on sight in real life).

man, midwest salaries suck.

have them make you and offer, which they might. if you like it, take it. if they ask you what you want to make, man... i would at least want $20/hr. that was like the starting GD salary around here in 2001!!!

ha that one comment was great, about only three schools worth a crap :-)

anyhow thanks for the advice, 28 or so is fine, i have a retail management job now that pays me a little less than that, i would hope for more.

and the company is definately not bull shit..its being financially backed by one of the largest dental offices in the area, with several locations.

of course i have a portfolio, how the hell do u think i got the job???

thanks guys!

Agree, let them start talking dollars first ..

If you haven't already, you can ask the softer questions like the people you will work with, what your manager is strong at, etc ..

Yeah! They do!

but their living costs don't!

I'd say any where from 25-35k is what you should be making, given where you live.

My job would make around 15-20k over there. Maybe even lower!

C'mon folks, he just graduated, let's not crush al of his hopes and dreams at once.

Second interviews, as noted above, ARE serious. It means you're almost there. The best advice I can give you is to ask THEM some questions... key challenges, areas for improvement, contributions, etc.

Good luck!
