Default 2nd molar root through gum

Hey folks,

since it's the weekend, before visiting the dentist, I'm posting to see if anyone can give me a tip.

I had a canker, about 7mm wide right where 2nd molar root should be inner side of my gum.
Now that the canker is gone, I see my 2nd molar root where the canker was.

The tooth and gum in that area hurts like hell. I cannot chew on this side.

Will the gum flesh heal back covering the damage?

Anyone had something similar?

Thanks in advance

Amazingly they can now graft new gum material, which might be an option. But I'm no dentist.

I'm a dentist. Is this on the cheek side of the tooth or the tongue side. There is literally no way you can see root but it is possible that the bone could be exposed if you really f'ed the area up or had thick bone with thin gums over it. If that is the case then time is really the only remedy unless there is a loose piece of bone that can be removed. These can drag for months. A canker sore has a white center when it is at its most painful but this center is just dead gum tissue. In that case a few days will work wonders. In the meantime baby the area and avoid spicy things for your own comfort.

thx for the replies.

It's on the tongue side. I poked it with a toothpick and it definitely is a tooth.
Taking advil pretty helps with pain. The pain is not all that bad as it used to be now.

well I don't have a picture, but an update.

Went to the dentist, and he said it's my bone...and that an oral surgeon has to grind the bone. He also mentioned that it'll cost an arm and a leg

Came home, looked at it close.. but couldn't believe it could be a bone...
So I got a hook thingy and pulled on it. It hurt like hell, but it tore off the gum and came out.

It was a broken tooth fragment. They had to break my wisdom tooth into pieces to take it out two years ago.

So everything was good, I was happy I took the damn thing out. But now... another huge piece is trying to get out.
This time, it's really big.. at least 2~3 times larger.. and sharper.

Gum started hurting again.. so is my tongue..

Should I wait for it and pull it out myself again later? or go give my arm and a leg?

That's some crappy work when they miss those shards that are now working their way out! Find a new oral surgeon is my recommendation and have them removed.
