3d tv
I was wondering if i was to purchase a 3d tv does that mean i can only watch 3d content only? Cause as everyone knows if you dont have the glasses on the screen has a double image and is cloudy.
i was planning to get a 3d tv but if that means i can only watch absolutly everything on tv in 3d then forget it. I mean who wants to watch everything with the damn glasses on all the time?
if this is the case, i wanted to get a 55-60 inch led lcd sony tv. Does anyone know the high end sony that maybe comming out or is out in this size? i ask cause on sony.com they have some other models and when i go around to places like crutchfield.com or bestbuy etc... they have models that the sony site dont have. there are just so many damn models i am a bit confused what different between all of them.
thanks

I've always been confused about this. So when I'm watching the news on my regular TV, am I seeing 2D or 3D? I can tell there is depth, so that has to be 3D, right?
As far as OP's question, I believe most content won't be available in 3d yet.... dunno though. All I know is that watching 3D movies gives me a headache after 30min.
Samsung was one of the pioneers in 3D tvs.
My old Sammy 56" 60Hz is 3D-ready..
For the OP question, no you are not limited to only 3D with a 3D set. You will be able to watch "normal" video and it will look the same as it ever has.
That being said, it is not an automatic conversion to 3D at ALL. All your old movies/BluRays will need to be re-purchased as 3d versions (the 3d movies you get the blue/red glasses with will NOT work).
Think 3D in the movie theatre. It's exactly the same concept/execution.
Untill glasses-less 3d screens get cheaper/bigger (the new upcoming Nintendo 3DS is supposed to have a 3D lcd that does not need glasses)

3D TVs mean they have the ability to display 3D content. Most of the time they act as regular TVs. And most 3D content now are a hand full of blu-ray movies in available 3D format. You will also need a player that can play these movies.
Most, if not all channels (local, cable, satellite) are not in 3D format. However, there are a few networks that will devote a channel to it. ESPN for example. Consider a 3D TV only if you plan on watching 3D content in the future.
As for LED LCD TVs, it just means the blacklight is LED rather than the standard fluorescent lighting. The display is still LCD. There are display quality differences between the LED LCD and standard LCD, but I recommend seeing it in person whether to justify the price difference. Other advantages for LED LCD TVs are they can be made thinner and the display will look pretty similar at all angles. Link with explanation.

2d, since there are only 2 dimensions (think of a picture), whereas with the 3d tv, the picture pops out off the set... hence 3d.

But I can see width, length and depth (3 dimensions). In some older cartoons, you can only see width and length. I have seen the 3D movies you refer to, e.g. Avatar, but when I watch TV programs, I can see depth as well.

Sounds like they want to cover all bases before selling TV's.
