Default 47,000+ reasons the Taliban doesn't stand a chance...

...are the 47,000 members of the US Special Forces and the members of the British SAS force. I think every American should take a second to consider these men (already operating on the ground in Afghanistan --> http://www.cnn.com/2001/US/09/28/ret.speci...ions/index.html ) and their thankless tasks on our behalf.

Can you imagine? Truly amazing people.

These are some really special folks! Let's just say I really wouldn't want to be on the receiving end. Their training is continuous and highly regimented. Make no mistake, they are highly trained and motivated against their targets. Their only bottleneck is the intel that they are fed. Give them good intel and let them go meet their objective. Believe me they don't stop until they have. Tough fellows in harms way!!

These guys are the best of the best. As JRM (like me, former USAF) says, I really wouldn't want these guys pissed off at me. I once trained at Fort Benning Survival School with the Rangers. They are truly bad mothers. God bless them.

Awesome individuals. I met Brummie Stokes. He and Bronco Lane while serving with SAS took part in an Everest expedition.Knowing it was a dodgy decision, the two of them struck out for the last leg to the summit despite bad weather warnings, hoping to reach the summit and get down quickly. They ended up spending the night on the summit in a blizzard where no-one survives. They spent the night punching and slapping each other to keep awake. In the morning they were down to a single oxygen cylinder between them but couldn't open the valve with their gloves on. Bronco making a conscious decision, removed his glove and opened the metal valve with his bare hand in those awful sub zero temperatures. By sharing the cylinder they made their way down where they were met by a rescue party.

They were both flown to Katmandu by helicopter where a surgeon
removed all of their toes due to frostbite. Bronco also lost the fingers and part of one hand. You'd think that would be it, but about a year later Bronco was ambushed whilst serving in Northern Ireland and shot it out with his attackers killing several of them and chasing the rest into bandit country.

As Jeff said you don't want these guys getting pissed at you!

I just wonder how long this campaign is gonna last, with the Taliban on the side of Bin Laden ... Finding him is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Oh Tak, if I was allowed to tell you some of the methods they use you would be amazed! It's going to last for as long as it takes. Bud, if they really wanted to they could count the hairs on your go nads from several thousand miles up. This is old news, just think and use your imagination with real world technology. There is not enough will power in this whole wide world to keep me from going crazy if I knew they were looking for me. This guy is underground literally! That's the only reason they haven't found him yet! Of course all rodents go to ground when they feel threatened.

Give me a Remington BBR in 6mm and a fixed 24 Leupold and I'll pin him right between the eyes at 700 yards! Do this all the time with Gophers. Give me a grenade and I will personnally shove it up his penis, jerk the pin out, stick it in his eye and wait for it to go off. Dirty SOB @#$^ Mother F!%$ing piece of smelly arse S#$t.

I was watching CNN yesterday and I was actually quite surprised/shocked at how they kept going on and on with their discussions about what these special forces might be up to and the strategies they might be using and support logistics they might use.

I mean I know that these are the BEST soldiers out there but shouldn't the media have a responsibility to keep quiet about this. I doubt the Taliban or OBL have ANY capacity to significantly interfere with the special forces operations but I don't think we're helping them by bandying around possible operational strategies on the open media.

The reason the media are speculating of course is that they are not being told what's going on! What information they are given either officially or as 'leaks' is quite likely to be misinformation!

It's a 'Different kind of war'......Different tactics.!

They did the same during the Gulf War.
Some of the speculation can become quite interesting though.
