4.) If you have a Dell that is solid after 3.5 years, doesn't that tell you something? Why I say that? I have a Dell Inspiron 4100. That's 8 years old, but still rocking it. Slow, but still rocking it.

In my opinion, Dell is strong contender for quality and price comparing to anybody else.
I like your thinking..... 3.5 years old with no repairs is pretty good for a laptop that I use every day and have hauled all over the place.

i found out that at my work we get "quoted" prices from Dell which are even less than any of their advertising. I will most likely get them to quote something that is tailored to what I want and go with the Dell.

I was thinking this AM I would find something cheap at the stores but..... blaaaa

Well, Dell business has a Black Friday system that "was" going for $299 but went up $50 since the pre-built system was sold out in a few days.

Between my wife and I we have 4 laptops, all of them are DELLs. All of them have been bulletproof AND the big plus is the fact that all of the power supplies are interchangeable. Trust me, that's HUGE. biggrin.gif
Please not that freq and freq's wife are exceptions that prove rules.

It does seems like you have a hatred for Dell. Well, put it this way, Between me and my line of work, I say I have handled about 150+ Dell system (desktop, laptop, server...). Now, let me make one thing clear, there are "nothing" in this world are problem free no matter how good the brand is. You may be the lucky one that picked all the bad grain of rice out of the whole bag. But when dell goes bad, they go bad in batches. Their suppliers could of supplied a bad batch of some component. So that could explain your experience of all the DOA system.

Now, with the other two, they are bad because of designed flaws (hint, hint....power issues and case going yellow for all you Mac lovers). So even with good components, they are gonna go bad in time. Back to the 150+ dell system. Based on my work, Dell has the highest rate for being problem free ....by far compared to others. Hence, so many colleges I went to uses Dell system.

Weeeow, that was a lot of work. I need a can of Pepsi.
