Speed is rarely a factor in accidents. Alcohol, sleeping, and inattention are the three most common factors. And they kind of go together.

Speed only makes injuries worse. And since the gov't has consistently mandated safer cars, why not drive faster and put all that safety to use? We *are* paying for it. Hate to not get my money's worth.

Speed is always a factor; not the only factor but always one. Too much speed makes the car harder to control safely and much harder to react. Avoiding an accident at 30 is much easier than at 60 or 80.

How 'bout just punch cards for speeding tickets. Register your car ahead of time so everyone knows you're not a bank robber, cop punches your card if you get caught speeding, you pay the fine, and your tenth one's free.

You are incorrect. Speed is NOT always a factor and can be argued that it is NEVER the factor but rather the inability to control a car at a certain speed.

An arbitrary speed can be handled by different people in different cars differently. To slap a "speed was a factor" in any and every accident where the speed limit was exceeded is nothing more than standard lip service so that police officer can keep writing speeding tickets to pay their salaries and insurance companies can continue to raise peoples' rates.

How can speed be a factor for nearly all the accidents when 100% of the drivers on the road speed at some point in their daily drive. By that logic every single person who takes their car out on the road will end up in an accident the instant they hit 36mph in a 35.
