Thumbs up AAA discounts?

Was planning on signing up for AAA and dropping towing&labor with my insurance company...... just wondered if anyone has received a discounted rate, and if so, by what means? I may belong to some organization, credit card company, etc, and not even know I have AAA discount benefits.

You pay an annual fee and get discounts etc. depending on which package you have with AAA. Example: I have AAA Gold Plus (or something)package which gets me 100 free miles of towing etc.

AAA is also good for recieving discounts for several other things. I use it for theme park tickets and vacation discounts and it pays for the membership just for the savings benefits.

Red face

I think I may have poorly articulated my question.

I am interested in knowing if anyone obtained a AAA membership at a reduced rate, through, perhaps some organization they belong to................. NOT asking what the benefits of AAA are - that info is on their web site.

group buy on AAA memberships?

I kind of doubt there is anyway to get a discount... it is only $35 or so isn't it?

I use my AAA card at Dunhams (sporting goods store) and save 15%... i trip there can save the full years worth of membership fees...

Post back if you find away to get a discount.

Most of the discounts you receive because you are a AAA member aren't really discounts at all.

Hotel/Motel discounts come off their full rack rate (read that as a price they'll never get) and the price with the final discount is quite often more the going rate for Joe Schmoe who just walks in off the street.

The "discount" for shipping or insurance is done the same way.

How much does towing cost you on your insurance plan? Mine costs less than a AAA membership.

I cancelled my AAA membership after I got my "free" towing. My tow was 2 miles over the "agreement" that tow company had with AAA and I got charged $300. I disputed that with AAA and they said that no matter what my membership said that it was limited to their agreements with the individual tow companies and I'd just have to eat it. This tow was in Houston and not some little podunk, out in the middle of nowhere town.

Membership for my wife and me is 67.00 a year. We belong to a large group ao we also get a discount on AAA auto insurance (yet it's still fairly expensive). We get to pay monthly for 11 months for insurance and then the 12 month is the membership fee.

I have the AAA Plus membership. It's worth it alone for the 100 mile free tow if ever needed. Plus the maps when planning a road trip and discount on auto/homeowners insurance.

Research your 100 mile free tow. It may not be what you think it is. They have a mileage limit to each tow that is determined by their contract with the towing company in that area.

They might have a 5 mile limit with that towing company. It's not as if you can choose where you break down so your tow feature might end up costing you more than if you just called a company out of the yellow pages since THEIR towing companies tend to have exorbitant fees for anything over their limit. Try $300 for me.

Maps are available online from too many sources for them to be considered a plus and as far as insurance goes, shop around, you will usually find your discount isn't really worth anything.

I know that at hotels the AAA discount is most of the time more expensive than other rates available from the hotel at the front desk. My son and daughter both work for hotel chains.
