Default Absinthe

I just bought a bottle of kubler absinthe. haven't tried it yet. I'm gonna wait for the next gathering to try it with my friends.

has anyone tried the American stuff yet? do you just catch a buzz or do you actually hallucinate?

normal absinthe will not make you hallucinate.
"Homemade" or grey market absinthe can contain high levels of Thujone (a chemical in Wormwood) which can cause them.

The US stuff cannot, by law, contain any.

It can be 144proof which is enough to mess you up good.

to get drunk...

It's very strong, and the wormwood gives it a very different taste/feel than other alcohols. A friend of mine brought some real stuff back with him when he finished his tour of duty. No hallucinations. You'd have to drink enough Absinthe to give yourself alcohol poisoning in order to get enough thujone, US version or not, in order to get a hallucination.

The only thing I know about Absinthe is that it makes the heart grow fonder.

i found that it makes you more lucid, if that means anything to anyone. i had it at a bar i barcelona that specializes in absinthe. seemed pretty real to me, sold in a glass (w/sugar and spoon...flame not provided) and you get a bottle of water with to do the mixing.

it's funny, here in taiwan they market this nasty stuff called absinthe...but it's a bright neon green and tastes horrendous...and burns all the down (they sell it in shot form).

a few things about absinthe:

1. you will not hallucinate
2. it tastes like black licorice
3. it'll get you drunk, a different drunk, but still drunk

that is all
