So I decided to buy a bottle of Lucid Absinthe ($65) last night and give it a whirl today. Here is a little play-by-play of my experience.

I am not expecting to hallucinate or anything like that but I have heard that the herbs & alcohol make for a fun mix. The smell & taste is super-licorice which I am not too big of a fan of. I have had 1/2 of the drink so far (3 fl oz) and can start to feel a little buzz.

 

I had some when I was in Montreal, although I didn't do the sugar cube thing (just mixed it with sprite) I got surprisingly drunk for 40% alcohol or whatever it was. Very good times!

Absinthe that is sold legally here doesnt have wormwood in it

really damn! i heard it was recently released and was going to try it out, but w/out the "wormwood" (is that the hallucenagetic??) i guess its probably excactly the same as any other liquor, so is there any real point to buying the stuff? wut is "real" absinthe like? isnt it actually dangerous?
can anyone clarify a little, im tired of googling..

Lucid contains wormwood but it is such a small amount that you would probably get super-sick from the alcohol before you felt any of the effects of the wormwood (thujone).

1 drink follow-up : It tastes like shit to me alone as I don't like licorice. Tomorrow I will get some good mixers and go for broke.

to get the good stuff you have to import from europe and hope it clears customs.

They dont make it like they used to in the victorian era. You would have to get ridiculously trashed on the stuff to even get a visual vibration. The stuff you have there is like kool aid (less than 10ppm of thujone)
