First you take the test, then 3-4 weeks later they call you again to take the oath.
And another thing, so that website I put up that charges $199 is utterly useless for me right?
-Green Card more than 5 years.
-Fluent on english and hopefully your history too. (Actually, I'll get into that in a minute)
-No criminal records (I don't know you or if you kill people as a hobby or something. Otherwise, you're good)
You need to N-400 form
Here
Now, since you do this so late, you are in a doo doo on the test. The old test is history based, which is easy. The new test is to see if you know how to exercise your citizen rights. Little bit more....complicated in a meaningful way. Instead of "Who's George Washington", you are probably asked about "How do you exercise your 1st Amendments. You know, your rights to call George Bush a monkey without being jailed. Regardless, for people like you and me, it's still a walk in the park and I will still call George Bush a monkey to his last day.....because I can. So just get the application and do it already!!!
Fo sho! Actually after reading a bit more into it, I qualify for the N-600 application where my current parents have been naturalized so as long as I was under the age of 18 during Feb. 27, 2001, I can just sign up for the "Certification of Citizenship". I don't know if its easier or the process is faster or not, but it sounds a lot less intimidating than the normal N-400 application..
Gatecrasher,
I've had my green card since oct. 1989
and have been a permanent residence since then.
The Raptor,
I just got REALLY lazy when I was in high school to file the application and getting it done. I'm paying the consequences now, and I take full responsibility. I guess better late than never

I thought if your parents were citizens before you turn 18, you automatically become one. That's how I got my citizenship. I just had to show up to complete some formalities and that was it. Didn't even matter when I did it from what I was told....I could have waited 40 years if I wanted.
So it's not that I think it was this way, but simply it was this way. Did something change since then?
