Default Acura MDX?

Anyone here have an Acura MDX? I've been thinking about getting a SUV and I've narrowed down my choices to the Acura MDX or the BMW X5. Anyone here have any good or bad experiences or opinions about it?

I don't have one, but we are planning on trading in our TL next year for one.

I am not sure how to justify the larger price tag of the BMW compared with the MDX. I assume you are talking about the 4.4i and not the new 3.0i? The MDX has more room and just about everything the 4.4i has (the BMW is more powerful). I also think the MDX is better looking. It certainly should thunder over the 3.0i. When I looked at these vehicles I saw no compelling reason for us to get the BMW. Your mileage of course may vary.

From what I've read/seen/heard, the MDX is probably the best of the mid-size utes out there. The X5 looks great on paper, but apparent suffers from a terribly harsh ride (maybe not compared to the S2000, but...) and equally poor gas mileage. The 4.4L X5 appears to be the better choice, but unless you plan on serious hauling or towing (in which case, buy a pickup truck) but the 3.0L might be more "appealing" all around.

For the record, I hate SUVs (and trucks in general) when used as cars, but I would willingly drive an MDX.

Take that with a LARGE grain of salt

If you're into performance, then the BMW is far and away the choice for you. It doesn't have much in terms of Utility or cargo room, but the 4.4 has an awesome engine, straight from the 540i. It's a BMW, nice interiors, and such. The Acura is a great SUV in it's own right, it has tons of space, and a third row of seats for little midget people or kids work too. Got a sweet V6 that makes more horsepower than most of the other SUV's around it's price. One thing in the MDX is that all of the controls are in the screen for the NAV system, which means cycling through displays, and if you don't get the NAV system, you still get a huge ugly screen in the dash for things like a trip computer. A bunch of people love the MDX around here in Chicago though, I see more and more of them. It's comfortable and flexible with enough sport for most people. But as S2000 owners, we're not most people.. So it comes down to whether you want Sport (BMW) or Utility (Acura) in your SUV

Dunno bout the X5, but tested the MDX and _really liked_ it . . . Fortunately or unfortunately, neither my wife nor I are "truck folks" so we went with a Passat Wagon 4-Motion instead.

Didn't have the need for the third row seats, but wanted a lot of interior room with good road manners. That's what we got! (BTW, also drove the allroad - too $$$)

Yeah unfortunately, I'm able to test drive the MDX since none of my local dealerships have them in stock. I was able to test the X5 though and yes, it's very powerful. But with this SUV, I'm leaning towards usefulness and safety, so we'll see...

Just my $.02 but the MDX is fantastic. One other thing to keep n mind is Honda is coming out with an SUV in the Spring. It is the size of a Tahoe and supposed to be very useful and convenient and should have plenty of power. It will lack some of the luxury but should still be a great Vehicle.

I know what everyone is thinking... "of course he said MDX he is a Honda Salesman"

Here's my distinction between the two:

The MDX is a solid ride.

The X5 is a phat ride.

I would definitely pick the X5 over the MDX even if it does cost a lot more.
