Just wanted to see how many, if any, ATC guys we have here, Civilian and Military Controllers. Where do you work, how long, or even what the weather is where you are. I will start with myself

NAS Whiting Field - Military Controller
I have been here for 2 years working ops and twr.

Question: Is the job as stressful as they say it is?

Anything can be stressful, it just depends on the person. I, personally, enjoy it. It does have its hairy moments! You need something to take your mind off of it sometimes.......

I have a friend in the Marines who is in ATC. I think he's in North or South Carolina. I'm not sure now.

This is of no help but my brother is doing it this summer in Canada - he'll be working as an ATC by the winter, apparently.

The question I have is how much longer will ATC be around? There is a lot of talk that with current technology pilots may soon be able to plot their own course without transitioning across ATC areas (thus giving everyone a more direct route with GPS and conflict resolution software for traffic).

Of course....general aviation is far from that, but realistically, it could happen right for commercial?

Not quite a ATC, my dad works for the FAA and is responsible for maintaining all the FAA sites in Socal and Arizona, but he's done all sorts of stuff for the FAA before that.
